Strike
Steel rods, plastic wrap, 2018

My life-size work engages with the viewer in order to facilitate a phobic response between the viewer and their surrounding. The plastic wrap around the snake allows the viewer to view the delicate ribs of the snake while still maintaining the cylindrical shape of the snake. When looking into the body of the snake, its semi-translucent skin creates a claustrophobic effect in addition to small notions of suffocation. The dominating stance of the snake puts the viewer in a defensive and alert mindset. The purpose of this piece is to provoke a phobic and anxious response to the snake.

It can sometimes be difficult to watch an animal take another animals life even if it is souly for consumption purposes. What are humans doing differently? We all need to eat something.
