This short film is based off of "Heat" (2019) which is a sculpture of wax plants that are casted from fake plants designed to look like real plants. This short film depicts the life of a sunflower from seed to flower and emphasizes the fragile life span of a real plant. Meanwhile the wax plants have experienced no change.

An artifact can be defined as an object that is artificial in character and usually associated with a particular time period. My task was to cast an artifact, so I decided to cast succulent plants out of wax. There is irony in that the plants are casted in a mold based off a fake plant which is based off a real plant. My castings are so far removed from being a real plant that they play with the idea of how closely they represent actual plants. I placed the wax plants in a glass aquarium with a red heat lamp above them which gives a sense of impending doom for the plants. They are in an environment that protects them from harsh conditions yet if the heat lamp gets too hot it will destroy them. I want the viewer to think about plants in the distant future and if the portrayal of plants will come down to a casting of a fake plant that is made to resemble a real plant and if the plants in the aquarium are a model for plants today.
